ATI Steering Committee Meeting Notes May 8, 2015 Present: G. Centeno, P. Diaz, G. Garcia, A. Harwood, T. Johnson, P. LaPolt, K. Melick, M. Mulet, M. Peppers, R. Tran, Excused: N. Hunt, M. Jazzabi, L. Mahoney, M. Murray, P. Quan, I. Stansberry, S. Varela, Y. Zhu Updates and Announcements Alex Harwood asked the members if we addressed last year’s audit findings. He reviewed the audit recommendations and what Cal State L.A. had responded. The committee indicated that all requirements were and accounted for in the annual ATI project plan from last year. ATI Steering Committee Members agreed to meet over the summer to start working on the annual reports. The Committee also agreed to meet as needed two or three times during the quarter but not to meet during exams week. Working Group Updates: Web Alex Harwood reported that he had attended the Cal State University Northridge conference in San Diego. He presented information on: o CEO roundtable: They presented the future vision of accessibility. Accessible tech should be embedded in websites rather than user based making for equal access. Legislation can hamper creativity and innovation. o User Testing: Usability testing – It is more than just accessibility. They are researching methods for conducting accessibility usability tests. In the moderated testing that they are conducting, they are allowing users to bring their own devices, they provide scripts and are being encourage to speak out loud. The remote tool is called Loop1. Target presented this topic, the feedback is analyzed and surveys are being conducted. Target also has a very large web development staff and teams with user experience team, images teams, search teams and many more resources then what we have. o CSUN: They are supporting the culture change, they are developing testing strategies. They have two full time staff as well as four or more student workers. The student workers bring issues to content/web owners and work with them until resolution is implemented. o 2 Roads to Accessibility: Penn State has taken the Top Down mandate but bottom up planning and implementation. Temple took the top down approach. Both Penn State and Temple looked to the CSU Chancellor’s Office as an example to emulate. o Law and Policy: There is a new Bill AB 1369 – decoding dyslexia. Higher Ed is pending federal legislation. o Videos and accessibility: Some of the problems include insufficient control operations; incorrect implementation; inability to gain a full and complete transcript, and YouTube is not compliant. User Testing, 2 roads of to accessibility will make a presentation at the next meeting. Alex reported that he will begin working on the ATI Annual Plan and Report. Procurement Tom Johnson reported that as they were working on completing the Task Dashboard items, they realized that the procurement/ITS forms needed to be revised and are working on condensing the forms two page. Instructional Materials Philip LaPolt reported that IMAP was not able to meet because they had no Quorum. Faculty will be receiving information on what steps need to be taken to comply with captioning requirements. Mariel Mullet asked if training would be promoted and Phil replied that this would only applied to Academic Affairs faculty.
