PROJECT BACKGROUND
The Texas Department of Transportation is in the process of expanding and reconstructing IH 35 through central
Texas. This includes 17 projects covering 3 counties for a total length of over 90 miles between the
Bell/Williamson county line and the East/West split in Hillsboro.
PROPOSED PROJECT
The proposed project will consist of a six-lane controlled access facility with one-way frontage roads. The latest
total estimated cost of construction for this project is approximately $90 million. Additional right of way would
be required for the project.
The project being discussed at tonight’s meeting would widen IH 35 through Salado from FM 2843 to FM 2484.
The alignment presented tonight is a result of public input received from public meetings in July 2000, March
2001 and May 2007 as well as meetings with public officials and property owners. As a result of public
involvement, TxDOT has made several design changes to the originally proposed schematic including additional
exit ramps and a narrower right-of-way section.
PROJECT SEQUENCE – Anticipated Schedule
 Public Hearing – Early 2010
 Begin Right-of -Way Acquisition – 2010
 Construction – Pending availability of funding
