Set Up: Place the large Hula hoop (13 original colonies under British rule) in the center of the play area. Divide the class into 4 different teams (pick four): Virginia, New York, Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Delaware, Georgia, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. NY PA NH VA = Frisbee to place the cards in. Activity: On the signal the first student will jog (hop, jump, gallop, skip) to the original 13 colonies under British rule and pick up a card and place it in a Frisbee in order of the events that lead up to the Revolutionary War. The other students will jump in place (fighting the war) while waiting on their teammate to return from the original 13 colonies. The next student in line will go to the colonies and play continues until all events are placed in order from the 13 colonies to the states. The teacher will check to see if students have all 12 events in the correct order. If not the teacher should tell the team how many events they have incorrect. Students must then take the incorrect events back to the colonies and return them in the correct order in the Frisbee, one event at a time. Once all teams have their events in the correct order the Teacher calls out “War” and the students jog (gallop, skip, hop, jump, slide) around the play area one time and return to their team area. The game can be played again. Time the students to see how long it takes to complete the task the first time and challenge them to go faster the next time the game is played.
