Science Homework Due Wednesday March 1st. We are going to be learning about plate tectonics for the next month. This project is designed to help you get a better understanding of what a tectonic plate is and how tectonic plate movement shapes the Earth. Just like the building model project I will put up a sign up sheet for presentation times. You will bring your project on your presentation day. You may work with a partner or alone. The partner may be from your or another 6th grade science class. You may only work with one other person. You do not have to work with anyone, you can work alone. You will not work on this project in class, so if you choose to work with another person, you must okay it with your parents. Directions Construct a three dimensional model of a tectonic plate. You may want to use materials such as cardboard, wood, clay, Styrofoam, plastic, or anything else you see fit. Label the model with the following: Continental crust Oceanic crust Lithosphere Major topographical features such as mountain ranges, large valleys, seas, large lakes etc. Be prepared to present your model to the class. Your presentation should include: Which tectonic plate you have chosen. Explanation of the labeled parts. What you made your model out of and how you constructed it. Why you chose it. Any challenges you faced, and how you overcame those challenges. Model = 50 points Labeling = 20 points Presentation = 30 Points Total = 100 points Ask questions early. I am giving you 2 ½ weeks to complete this project, I expect high quality work. HAVE FUN!
