Unit 2: Earth’s Layers & Plate Tectonics Study Guide Test Date: Wednesday, September 21, 2011 Test Review: Tuesday – In Class Directions: These are the concepts that will be addressed on the test. Look over the list and study the things that you need more help on. Study suggestions are located at the bottom of the page. EARTH’S LAYERS Layers of the Earth o Order o Characteristics o Composition (what it’s made of) What scientists have studied to develop their theory on the Earth’s layers Importance of the Inner Core spinning within the Outer Core Describe how Convection Currents occur inside Earth Resources: Earth’s Layers Foldable & Questions, Directed Reading, Convection Currents Lab, Friday Flashbacks PLATE TECTONICS Pangaea Plate Tectonic Theory Continental Drift Theory & the evidence to support it Sea-Floor Spreading Theory & the evidence to support it o Where & how new crust is formed o What happens to the old crust Tectonic Plate Boundaries (each type & geologic event that occurs) o Convergent boundary Process of Subduction How a trench is formed o Divergent boundary o Transform boundary Resources: Plate Tectonic Notes, Moving Continents Reading, Edible Tectonics Lab, Plate Tectonics Internet Activity, Friday Flashback STUDY TIPS Try addressing all of these concepts on a separate sheet of paper. If you don’t have enough time to address all of the concepts, try to answer the ones that seem difficult for you. Review your notes. Try to summarize the information from each page of the notes on another sheet of paper.
