Course Title: ESOL 0356 Advanced Conversation for Foreign Speakers
Course Description: ESOL 0356: A continuation of ESOL 0349. This course is designed to encourage students to improve aural comprehension of academic lectures, note-taking skills, and enhance verbal communication of complex ideas.
Statement Of Purpose
Students are able to make inferences regarding complex ideas.
Students continue to refine their oral production skills.
Students continue to refine note-taking skills, and are able to use their notes to summarize in both oral and written form.
Students are able to function in every day academic interactions
Upon completion of ESOL 0356 , Advanced Conversation, the student should be able to:
Identify main idea and key points of an academic lecture.
Use lecture notes in collaboration with classmates to orally review and summarize lectures.
Function more effectively in interpersonal situations using appropriate linguistic forms and correct register.
Pronounce sufficiently well to be understood by native English speakers.
Successfully prepare and deliver an oral presentation with follow-up questions and answers.

Attendance:

Attendance is very important. If you are absent more than 10 classes, including lab hours, during the semester, you may be dropped from all of your classes
Tardiness:
Be on time. If you are tardy more than 15 minutes, I will mark you one hour absent. If you come to lab more than 15 minutes late, you will be marked one hour absent.
Makeup Tests/ Late Homework:
If you are absent, please ask a classmate for any missed assignments. Homework will be accepted no later than the next class period. There will be no makeup tests or quizzes without a documented, compelling reason..
Cell phones or other means of communication must be turned off during class. Please keep all cell phones/communication devices inside your bag or pocket during class.
Withdrawals:
A student may drop his/her Gulfton courses for any reason until November 18th, at 4:30 p.m. A student may also be dropped from the Gulfton program for excessive absences until that date. After November 18 th
, the student will receive the grade that she/he has earned. College policy prohibits faculty from assigning a grade of W (“Withdrew,” or dropped) after the official drop date.
