you the latest news from the site.
Wishing all staff, patients and visitors a
merry Christmas and a happy New Year.
NHSScotland Staff Survey
Thanks to all staff who took part in the
recent NHSScotland Staff Survey. 38 per
cent of you took part, which is a
significant increase over the last two
years. Your feedback will help us to
continually make improvements in the
workplace to benefit both staff and
patients.
You can read a brief summary of the
results as well as the full report here.
Winter Planning
There are lots of ways we can be
prepared for winter. Help keep yourself,
your family and your patients safe this
winter by ensuring you:



Know where to go for care over
the festive period (e.g. the minor
injuries clinic at the Western
General Hospital or NHS 24).
Stock up on prescriptions and
general medicines in plenty of time
before the Christmas holidays.
Read up on helpful self-care such
as knowing your limits around
drinking alcohol.
Information on all of the above can be
found on the Your Health this Winter
pages of our website.
Clinical Change Forum
The December Clinical Change Forum
meeting at St John’s was well attended.
Tim Davison, Chief Executive and Dr
David Farquharson, Medical Director
gave brief introductions, then Simon
Edgar, Director of Medical Education,
spoke on the Clinical Quality
Management System.
Three other presentations were also
given at the event:


Joan Donnelly spoke on Doctors,
Information, Communication and
Engagement (DICE)
Belinda Hacking spoke on shared
decision-making

Jacquie Campbell, Karen
Adamson, Jane Rimer, Louise
McKay, Maria Corretge and
Christine Owen spoke on the West
Lothian Frailty Pathway.
You can view all the presentations here.
The dates for next year’s clinical change
forum events will be available shortly.
Paediatric Review
The review of acute paediatric care in
NHS Lothian is now underway and
patients, families, carers and staff are
being asked for their views.
The review comes after NHS Lothian
asked the Royal College of Paediatrics
and Child Health (RCPCH) to conduct an
independent review of hospital services
for children.
An online survey has been launched and
can be accessed here.
The West Lothian Podiatry Team was led
by team captain Karen Purdie; ‘Ortho
Rebels’ from ward 14 was led by team
captain Rebecca Russell, and team ENT
was led by Natalie Noble.
All teams managed to rack up
the 3,737,467 steps between them
doing walking, running and fitness
classes and even walks in the dark and a
walk over the Forth Road Bridge - before
it closed - to boost their step counts.
The cost of entering was funded by West
Lothian Council's Smarter Choices
Smarter Places programme for 2015/16,
which is funded by Transport Scotland
and managed by Paths for All.
Although our teams never won any of the
national prizes they will certainly have
boosted their health and wellbeing.
Hopefully we can encourage more teams
next year to get involved and hold our
own West Lothian Challenge.
Four Week Step Challenge –
Thank You
Well done to all the staff who participated
in the Paths for All Autumn four week
step challenge.
There were 389 teams in a
national challenge and we had three
teams of five across St John’s and West
Lothian CHCP who took part in four
weeks of activities.
This is your site newsletter and we want to hear from you about what’s going on in
your service.
