OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST GENERAL PURPOSE OF POSITION Under the direction of the Instructional Coordinator for Special Education, the Occupational Therapist offers direct and consultative services to staff and students. Typical duties include mentoring, providing evaluations of students, developing Individual Education Program (IEP) objectives, delivering services based upon LEPs, and working with school staff to develop appropriate activities. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF POSITION 1. Assists in the implementation of policies established by the local and state Boards of Education. 2. Monitors and assists the staff and students in the proper use and care of equipment, materials, and facilities. 3. Assists in planning, developing, and implementing of In-service training programs. 4. Conducts assessments, this may include students placed in alternative settings. 5. Develops IEP objectives based upon assessment results and curriculum needs. This may include IEP development for students placed in alternative settings. 6. Plans and consults with the administration, special education building coordinator, professional and paraprofessional staff at schools assigned. 7. Attends and participates in county-wide departmental meetings and completes committee tasks relevant to assessment, program, in-service and materials selection. 8. Arranges for special materials for identified populations of special education students. 9. Works during the summer to write curriculum, provide staff development and update manuals. 10. Maintains regular, on-time attendance. 11. Reacts to change productively and performs other duties as assigned. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION: 1. Holds a Maryland State license in Occupational Therapy. 2. Has the ability to coordinate activities and work effectively with professional staff, paraprofessional staff, parents, and representatives from agencies outside the school system. 3. Has a valid driver’s license and automobile for use. 4. Has good interpersonal communication skills. 5. Has a willingness and capability to work beyond the normal workday.
