Graduate Student Government of Northern Arizona University Regular Meeting October 21st 2013 5:30pm-6:30pm, Ashurst A109 Conference line: 928-523-9999 Agenda Roll call and quorum, Rachel Stevens -Quorum met -Also in attendance: Dan Kain & Denise Helm; Dena Lane-Bonds; Jessica Martini; Susan Lawhead; Ramona Mellott; David Spivey; Amanda Butkiewicz 5:30pm to 5:50pm Student Evaluations of Teaching Effectiveness -Vice Provost Dan Kain and Special Assistant to the Provost Denise Helm - The new student surveys are now hosted through a commercial provider. The surveys still appear associated with NAU, but the emails to complete the surveys will come from an outside source. - The new survey makes responses completely anonymous & each survey needs to meet a quota of student feedback in order for instructors to receive the feedback. This is intended to reduce the chances of an instructor figuring out what students gave feedback. - We will now get ONE notification for all classes, rather than individual emails. The notification will be sent three times. - Students can now complete the surveys on their smartphones and mobile devices. - The survey will NOT look at GTA classes; Denise will look into classes in which GTAs are the primary instructors. -The survey’s effectiveness will be assessed at the end of the 2013-2014 year, -Denise will take into consideration extending survey deadlines until after finals week ends. 5:50pm to 5:55pm Updates Introduction of new HHS Rep, Lauren Crane -Lauren will now serve on the social committee Textbook Adoption Campaign and ASNAU Traditions Carnival, Jason Kordosky -Ramona recommended sending a follow-up email to the faculty to whom we presented. NAPGS membership, Jason Kordosky - GSG will be paying annual NAGPS dues from its budget; Seonmin submitted a presentation proposal to the NAGPS national conference. 5:55pm to 6:05pm Committee updates Social, Susan Lawhead - Had first meeting, looking into hosting a tailgate at the last home football game of the season. There is also discussion about making the tailgates a regular occurrence next year. - Committee is looking into different community outreach opportunities, including hiking trips and art walk outings. Strategic Planning and Budget Council, Jason Kordosky - Jason needs feedback on strategic planning items. More to come. 6:05pm to 6:10pm 1 Graduate Student Government of Northern Arizona University Signups -ASA-GSG voter registration day of action, Wednesday November 6th -If GSG members want to participate, send Jason an email about getting classes covered/excused. -Academic Integrity Town Hall, Monday October 28th 1-4pm, Native American Cultural Center - How do we make punishment more universal? - Town hall will address proposed options - there is an option to phone in to town hall 6:10pm to 6:20pm VP nominations and vote, Rachel Stevens (vote) - Ali LeGrand nominates Susan Lawhead; Susan Lawhead nominates Dena Lane-Bonds; Dena Lane-Bonds nominates Amanda Butkiewicz - Susan Lawhead is elected vice-president 6:20pm to 6:25pm Resolution F13-4: Fall 2013 Graduate-Professional Student Survey, Jason Kordosky (vote) - Recommendation to remove #47 from the living/learning questions, because it’s irrelevant due to the difficulty of getting it created. - Beth Philemon motions to remove question; Michael Cook seconds. **MOTION PASSES** - **RESOLUTION PASSES, WITH #47 REMOVED** 6:25pm to 6:35pm GSG Stipends, Michael Cook (vote) -Michael proposes a 70% increase in stipends of the course of 2 years to incentivize participation to GSG. President stipend would be raised to $3,500; officer stipends would be raised to $2,500; representative stipends would be raised to $1,000. - There are some concerns about raising stipends before productivity increases; the conversation is tabled & added to next meeting’s agenda 6:35pm to 6:40pm Open Forum Meeting End: 6:55pm 2
