Following are the basic requirements for tutors in the Writing Resource Center:

(1) Resume

(2) A score of 85% or higher on a grammar exam to be taken at MWLP Headquarters in CB 100;

(3) A faculty sponsor for your knowledge of writing and interpersonal skills;

(4) A copy of unofficial transcripts;

(5) A brief (no more than two pages) letter of interest that addresses the following questions: a.

Why are you interested in this position b.

What skills do you have that make you a good candidate? c.

Describe any experience(s) you have that are relevant to working as a Writing Resource

Center tutor;

(6) A writing sample (2-5 pages) from a recent college or university course, preferably graded;

(7) A cover statement (no more than two pages) regarding your writing sample that explains the following: a.

What was the course and what was the specific assignment that led to this writing? b.

How did you produce this writing (i.e., what steps did you follow, what strategies did you use, how much time did you spend)? c.

What did you learn about writing from this assignment? d.

How would you help a student who struggled with a similar assignment?

e.

What does your writing sample NOT tell us about you as a writer and/or you as a potential writing tutor?

Preference will be given to those with the following:

(8) Graduate status;

(9) Successful completion of English 505, 506, 507, or 508;

(10) Previous tutoring experience.
