Enrollment Services Division Council Newsletter

2013
Dean’s Welcome Message
I would like to welcome the Enrollment Services Division staff to the start of the Fall Semester 2013. I
hope you had a restful and enjoyable summer. This academic year will prove to be full of excitement
as we welcome back our students. We will have to rise to the challenge as we implement the first
phase of the Student Success Task Force recommendations set forth in the Student Success Act of
2012. I am confident that by working with our colleagues from Student Services, Information
Technology Services, and the Office of Public Relations & Marketing that we will be successful.
I want to also take this time to recognize and thank those of you who were able to help our students
print class schedules on the first day of the fall semester. Although we had technical difficultly with
our college district software, this fact did not detract us from working together to meet the needs of
our students. This is a true testament to our commitment to serve students. Know that I am very
proud of our division and look forward to the many accomplishments and celebrations that we will
have this year.

Assessment/Testing

The Assessment/Testing office is currently working out the logistics for the upcoming on- and offcampus placement testing for fall 2014 enrollment. They hope to increase on-campus numbers by
bussing in additional groups of students between January and March during the spring semester.
Additionally, they hope to increase off-campus testing by simply adding more sessions to their
regular sites, as well as adding new testing locations.

The department is waiting for the Assessment/Testing webpage to be separated from Counseling
Services, which should have been done years ago when the department moved from Counseling to
Page 2
Enrollment Services Division Council Newsletter
Enrollment Services. They are also looking forward to being able to give their testing webpage a
nice new re-design.

A separate budget will be established for Testing for the purchase of ACCUPLACER test units. This
will allow the department to order additional units when needed without having to wait at length
for the availability of funds.

4,308 students were tested this summer, just 107 students under last summer’s figure.

The busiest week of testing is during the summer when Assessment/Testing assesses the ISP
students, as well as the Math Academy re-testers. This year, during the week of 8/5 to 8/8, they
tested 532 students, a jump from the previous week’s 363 students.
