I. DISCUSSION/ACTION
A. Course Priorities: If Proposition 30 fails, the College will need to develop course
schedule development priorities. F. Arce distributed a draft of course priorities which
was discussed with the deans. It will impact the winter and spring schedule. F. Arce
requested feedback from Council members on the set of priorities. In Fall 2014, students
will be given priority based on preparation (i.e. orientation, education plan).
Access is getting narrowed because of the following changes: (1) abcd repetition
(2) requirement for students to go through matriculation.
B. AP 4105 – Distance Education: Accrediting Commission is requesting community
colleges to strengthen distance education courses. There is concern about distance
education and online courses becoming more like correspondence courses. The
Commission looked at institutions that do not incorporate best practice method.
The College will need to strengthen its procedures on conducting distance education
classes. (1) Find a way to identify students and if they really are taking the test. The way
to do this is to have contact with students. (2) Have a staff person instructional media
specialist work with faculty to set up courses and discussion board and number of
frequency of courses
C. AP 4021 – Program Discontinuance: The board policy has not been review by Academic
Senate.
D. BP 4025 – Philosophy for Associate Degree & General Ed: Needs further discussion on
campus. A campus task force may possibly need to meet before policy is developed.
II. OTHER
2012-13 calendar: The last year for winter session will be the 2012-13 academic year. There
will not be a winter session in 2014. Spring semester will begin January 2014.
