Title
Explain processes used for paper coating in paper making
Level
3
Purpose
Credits
5
People credited with this unit standard are able to: identify
paper coating components and their functions; explain the
application of coatings to paper; and explain the properties of
coatings and their effect on the quality of the end product.
This unit standard aims to provide knowledge of the principles
and equipment used in the coating of papers.
Classification
Wood Fibre Manufacturing > Pulp and Paper Technology
Available grade
Achieved
Explanatory notes
All evidence requirements must be demonstrated and assessed in accordance with the
reference texts: Pulp & Papermaking Technology, Unit 75, Coating – General, and Pulp
and Papermaking Technology, Unit 76, Coating – Papers (Australia: Box Hill College of
TAFE, 1995). They are available through FITEC, PO Box 137-067, Auckland.

Please note
Providers must be granted consent to assess against standards (accredited) by NZQA,
before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses
of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be granted consent to assess against standards by
NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards.
Providers and Industry Training Organisations, which have been granted consent and
which are assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that
applies to those standards.
Requirements for consent to assess and an outline of the moderation system that applies
to this standard are outlined in the Consent and Moderation Requirements (CMR). The
CMR also includes useful information about special requirements for organisations wishing
to develop education and training programmes, such as minimum qualifications for tutors
