NZQA registered unit standard 20025 version 3 Page 1 of 3 Title Tally and package wooden poles and roundwood products Level 3 Credits 3 Purpose People credited with this unit standard are able to carry out accurate tallying of wooden poles and roundwood products, and package and mark wooden poles and roundwood products, in accordance with worksite policies and procedures. Classification Solid Wood Manufacturing > Pole and Post Manufacturing Available grade Achieved Explanatory notes 1 All work practices must meet recognised codes of practice and worksite procedures for personal and worksite safety, and for environmental protection, and must meet the requirements of current legislation. 2 Legislation relevant to this unit standard includes but is not limited to the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992 and the Resource Management Act 1991. 3 This unit standard is intended for work-based assessment. While all evidence requirements must be met, some range statements within this unit standard are indicative and dependent on enterprise and worksite specific equipment, procedures, and practices. 4 All work practices must meet documented worksite quality management requirements. These include documentation of activities, events, and decisions. 5 Definitions Pole refers to a naturally round tree stem used to support wiring or used in construction; Roundwood refers to round, and part-round, wooden posts and poles that are shorter than 3.6 metres; Worksite policies and procedures refer to documented policies and to documented or other directions provided to staff. These include, but are not limited to, ways of managing health and safety, environmental considerations, quality, and production, and must conform to legislation. Examples include standard operating procedures, company health and safety plans, on-site briefings, and supervisor’s instructions. Evidence requirements 1.1 Product specifications are used to verify tallying meets requirements 1.2 Graded pole and roundwood products are checked to ensure they meet quality requirements. Range quality includes but is not limited to – dimensional variations, physical defects, mechanical defects, biological defects, marking and branding faults, length. 1.3 Tallying is carried out accurately. 1.4 Tallying results are recorded. Range 1.5 recording may include but is not limited to – hand-written records, tally cards or sheets, hand-held computer data entry recording. Communication with other workers is carried out. Range communication may include but is not limited to – verbal, written, computer-based reporting. Outcome 2 Package and mark wooden poles and roundwood products in accordance with worksite policies and procedures. Evidence requirements 2.1 Product specifications are used to verify packaging and marking meets requirements. 2.2 Tallied poles and roundwood products to be packaged are identified and checked. 2.3 Products are labelled. Range 2.4 labels may include but are not limited to – paint application, chalking, branding, prepared labels. Products are stacked.
