People credited with this unit standard are able to: – validate prisoner identity and documentation; – complete receiving documentation; – complete immediate needs checklist, new arrival risk assessment, and reception information checklist; and – search and contain prisoner prior to placement. Elements and performance criteria Element 1 Validate prisoner identity and documentation. Range check identity, check warrants. Performance criteria 1.1 Identity of prisoner is confirmed from warrant details and checked with prisoner in accordance with established prison policy and procedures. Range 1.2 Warrant is checked for accuracy and completeness in accordance with established prison policy and procedures. Range 1.3 name, address, date of birth. record numbers, signature. Existing prisoner file details are checked and prisoner identity confirmed against details and photo identification. Range penal file, sentence planning and management process, file box. Range prisoner files, computer system, property sheet, prisoner register, review and check court’s data entry. Performance criteria 2.1 Recorded receiving information is complete, concise, accurate, legible, and in the required format. 2.2 Receiving documentation and information is entered in computer system within 24 hours in accordance with established receiving procedures and operating requirements. 2.3 Prisoner files are created and or updated in accordance with local procedures. Range 2.4 Receiving information is reviewed, collated, and decisions on its application are made in accordance with established prison policy and procedures. Range 2.5 questionnaires, printouts. place on file, disposal, referral to others. Confidentially and integrity of information is maintained in accordance with established procedures. Element 3 Complete immediate needs checklist, new arrival risk assessment, and reception information checklist. Range prisoner status, at risk identification, immediate needs, segregation request, medical assessment. Performance criteria 3.1 New arrival risk assessment is carried out in accordance with established prison policy and procedures. 3.2 New arrival risk assessment identifies at risk status of prisoners in accordance with established prison policy and procedures. 3.3 Immediate needs of prisoners are identified and actions taken to meet these needs within the boundaries of prison operating requirements. Range health, family access, referral to nurse, initial phone call. New Zealand Qualifications Authority 2016 14628 version 3 Page 4 of 4 3.4 Initial prisoner induction is completed with information presented in a manner appropriate to the prisoner and the prison. Range 3.5 interview, induction checklist, visits, property, spiritual, cultural, social issues, unit manager. Interactions and communications with prisoners are calm and positive and relevant exchange of information is provided. Element 4 Search and contain prisoner prior to placement. Range complete search, search clothing, issue clothing and toiletry kit. Performance criteria 4.1 Complete search is carried out in the presence of two corrections officers in accordance with established policy and procedures. 4.2 Clothing is issued to prisoners in accordance with local instructions and procedures. Range 4.3 overalls. Prisoner is contained in holding cell until placement in accordance with local procedures. Please note Providers must be accredited by the Qualifications Authority, or an inter-institutional body with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment. Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by the Qualifications Authority before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards. Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards. Accreditation requirements and an outline of the moderation system that applies to this standard are outlined in the Accreditation and Moderation Action Plan (AMAP).
