People credited with this unit standard are able to: demonstrate knowledge of a tensionless drying machine; prepare and operate a tensionless drying machine; and carry out batch end procedures. They refer to manuals, manufacturer's specification, codes of practice, or policy statements. Product specifications refer to the document which accompanies each manufacturing order. This specifies all of the parameters for production of the yarn batch. This may include the fibre specification, the shade, dye bath parameters, and machinery to be used and finishing procedures. Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Demonstrate knowledge of a tensionless drying machine. Evidence requirements 1.1 Tensionless drying machine and related equipment are described in terms of function and operation. Evidence requirements 2.1 Fabric is prepared and loaded according to product specifications. Range fabric identified, batches for processing gathered together, fabric orientation according to workplace practices. 2.2 Machine is clean and empty to prevent contamination. 2.3 Machine is prepared and operated according to workplace procedures. Range 2.4 Machine is monitored during operation. Range 2.5 burner temperatures, through-put rate, conveyor belt gap, fabric threaded and centralized, safety devices and cut-out operational, front and back overfeed established, instrumentation and control devices set. maintain fabric feed, fabric tangles avoided, fabric does not creep sideways, air filters remain clear, front and back overfeed maintained, fabric width monitored, conveyor belt alignment maintained, fabric checked for dryness. Records are maintained according to workplace procedures. Outcome 3 Carry out batch end procedures. Evidence requirements 3.1 Machine and work area are cleaned to prevent contamination. Range 3.2 filters, belts, lint build-up in dryer chamber. Any machine faults are reported according to workplace procedures. Range faults may include but are not limited to – belt joins, filters intact and functional, causes of snags identified and removed. This unit standard is expiring. Assessment against the standard must take place by the last date for assessment set out below.
