Purpose
This unit standard is for people who write technical manuals and reports, or
who wish to be trained to do so.
People assessed as competent in this unit standard are able to identify
relevant material for reports, manuals, or documents; write technical reports,
manuals, and reports to the selected, required, or best formats; verify
accuracy; and maintain documents.

It is desirable that people undertaking this unit standard have been assessed in the
technical unit standards relating to the expertise required in the writing of related
manuals, or have the equivalent in workplace experience in the areas related to the
technical manuals to be written.

Reports, manuals, and documents: produced manually or on word processor,
equipment user manuals, guidelines and instructions for technical equipment,
reference manuals, reports for management, operational procedures and regulations
reports, customer survey reports, staff reports, research reports.

Selected information is identified from existing resources to meet the document
objectives within agreed timeframes.

Where available information is inadequate, additional information is obtained

Documents include title and date, and identify writer and intended readers.

Document pages are numbered or otherwise referenced so they are

reader quickly to the desired subject.

The content of the document is comprehensive, accurate, reliable, and
presented in a clear, logical order.

The selected format, style, and length of the document suits its purpose and
meets identified readers' needs.

Documents are produced and distributed to the agreed readers and within
agreed timeframe.

Confidentiality, including access by authorised users, is maintained.
3.3
File copies, and reference copies as required, are easily located and available
and maintained in good condition.
3.4
Each page of updatable documents is identified with author, date of last
amendment, and order identifier.

Distribution list of all holders of updatable documents is accurate and complete.

Please note
Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated
authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against
unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register
credits from assessment against unit standards.
Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards
must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
Accreditation requirements and an outline of the moderation system that applies to this
standard are outlined in the Accreditation and Moderation Action Plan (AMAP). The
AMAP also includes useful information about special requirements for organisations
wishing to develop education and training programmes, such as minimum qualifications for
tutors and assessors, and special resource requirements.
