People credited with this unit standard are able to: control casting plant set up; control casting floor operation; and coordinate the activities of floor operators. Classification Steel Manufacturing > Steel Making Available grade Achieved Explanatory notes 1 Definition Company documentation refers to the documented procedures, manufacturer’s manuals and selected reference texts for the equipment and process. 2 Legislation relevant to this unit standard includes but is not limited to – Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992, Resource Management Act 1991. 3 This unit standard must be assessed in a workplace environment. Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Control casting plant set up. Evidence requirements 1.1 Casting requirements are interpreted to enable the casting machine to be set-up to company documentation. 1.2 Setting up of casting plant is carried out in accordance with company documentation and enables the casting plant to receive steel in accordance with company requirements. 1.3 Checking of plant set-up is carried out in accordance with company documentation and enables the casting plant to receive steel in accordance with company requirements. Evidence requirements 2.1 Any ladle gate blockages are cleared in accordance with company documentation. 2.2 Monitoring of operational casting conditions enables plant to be adjusted to company documentation. 2.3 Organisation of any remedial action enables plant utilisation requirements to be achieved. remedial action includes but is not limited to – clean, replace, repair. Range 2.4 Cast product is checked to ensure it meets company specifications for grade and width. 2.5 Production schedules are met in accordance with company documentation. Outcome 3 Coordinate the activities of floor operators. Evidence requirements 3.1 Performance of tasks by floor operators is monitored to ensure production schedules are completed in accordance with company documentation and on time.
