People credited with this unit standard are able to: transport ladles of liquid steel; perform specific maintenance lifts; and manage crane operations. Classification Steel Manufacturing > Steel Product Handling Available grade Achieved Explanatory notes 1 Legislation relevant to this unit standard includes but is not limited to – Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992, Resource Management Act 1991. 2 This unit standard must be assessed in a workplace environment. 3 Definition Organisational procedures – documents that include worksite rules, codes and practices, equipment operating instructions, and production specifications. Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Transport ladles of liquid steel. Evidence requirements 1.1 Ladles are moved to maintain continuity of casting operations in accordance with organisational procedures. Range 1.2 movement may include but is not limited to – transfer car, ladle treatment station, casting machine, ladle decanting; evidence of three is required. The spatial position of ladles during transit assures the safety of personnel and plant. Evidence requirements 2.1 Specific maintenance lifts are performed in accordance with maintenance requirements to ensure adherence to schedules. maintenance lifts may include but are not limited to – mould changes, segment changes, scull removal, ladle renovation, ladle cars; evidence of three is required. Range Outcome 3 Manage crane operations. Evidence requirements 3.1 Transportation and placement of items required for the casting of steel are managed to ensure that the continuity of casting operations is established and maintained in accordance with organisational procedures.
