Definition
Company documentation refers to the documented procedures, manufacturer’s
manuals and selected reference texts for the equipment and process.

This unit standard must be assessed in a workplace environment.

Evidence requirements

Temperature tests meet company documentation for number and timing.

Samples sent to laboratory meet company documentation for number and

Outcome 2
Refine steel.
Evidence requirements
2.1
Lab results are interpreted to enable achievement of in-specification steel
chemistry.
2.2
Sampling and adjustment of steel chemistry are carried out in accordance with
company documentation.
2.3
Steel temperature and chemistry meet company documentation.
2.4
Check and control of slag condition conform with company documentation.
2.5
The reheating of ladle meets company documentation for reheated steel.
Outcome 3
Distribute refined steel.
Evidence requirements
3.1
Steel that is within specification for weight, temperature, and chemistry at the
end of the specified elapsed time, is distributed to the caster.
3.2
Decisions are made in accordance with company decisions about steel that is
out-of-specification at the end of the specified elapsed time.
Range
out-of-specification includes but is not limited to – by weight,
temperature, or chemistry.
Outcome 4
Prepare equipment for operation.
Evidence requirements
4.1
Condition of the lances is checked and the charge is carried out in accordance
with company documentation.
4.2
Electrodes are built in accordance with company documentation.
4.3
Gas argon is connected to the porous plug in accordance with company
documentation.
4.4
Maintenance of wire feeder operation is in accordance with company
documentation.
4.5
Floors are stocked in accordance with company documentation.
