Elements and performance criteria
Element 1
Prepare shearing blades.
Performance criteria
1.1
Safety procedures for blade preparation are demonstrated in accordance with
the Shearing Handbook.
Range
grinding, stoning.
1.2
Blades are pulled back, cut out, and cockspur, knocker, and driver are installed
in accordance with the Shearing Handbook.
1.3
Blades are set and adjusted in accordance with the Shearing Handbook.
Element 2
Sharpen, and maintain shearing blades.
Performance criteria
2.1
Techniques of grinding and stoning to achieve desired bevel and edge are
carried out in accordance with the Shearing Handbook.
2.2
Points are dressed, blades are ground and sharpened, and the cockspur and
driver are installed in accordance with the Shearing Handbook.
2.3
Blades are sharpened and confirmed as sharp by demonstration of industry
accepted testing procedures in accordance with the Shearing Handbook.
Please note
Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated
authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against
unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register
credits from assessment against unit standards.
Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards
must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
