Elements and performance criteria
Element 1
Identify grinder and pendulum settings, and grind combs and cutters.
Performance criteria
1.1
Combs and cutters are washed and dried in preparation for grinding.
1.2
Grinder is operated in a safe manner without injury to operator or others, or
damage to equipment.
Range
siting, lighting, guards, safety glasses, ear protection, pendulum
pin length.
1.3
Cutters and combs are ground in accordance with the Shearing Handbook.
1.4
Grinder and pendulum settings are identified in accordance with the Shearing
Handbook.
1.5
Combs and cutters are inspected to determine sharpness in accordance with
the Shearing Handbook.
Element 2
Set and trim grinding papers.
Performance criteria
2.1
Grinding papers are applied to the grinder disks in accordance with the
Shearing Handbook.
2.2
Papers are stored, adhered, and trimmed, in accordance with the Shearing
Handbook.
Range
2.3
cleaning, clamping, gluing, trimming, drying.
Worn and incorrectly adhered papers are identified and replaced in accordance
with the Shearing Handbook.

Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated
authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against
unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register
credits from assessment against unit standards.
