This unit standard is intended for people who are working in a retail environment that specialises in seafood. These requirements must include legislation and safety requirements and may include but are not limited to – industry codes of practice and standards. Retail environment refers to workplaces where the primary focus is on customers purchasing goods and/or services but may also include a distribution type of environment. 2 Legislation that applies to this unit standard includes but is not limited to – the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993, the Fair Trading Act 1986, the Sale of Goods Act 1908, and the Food Act 1981. Range 1.3 sources may include but are not limited to – company documentation and company specifications, company supervisory or management personnel, the New Zealand Seafood Industry Commercial Fish Species Poster, New Zealand Seafood Industry Council’s web site; information – usage, quality characteristics, handling. may include but is not limited to – origin, sensory information, nutritional benefits, shelf life. The description includes the potential for add-on sales for seafood product. Outcome 2 Provide seafood product information to customers in a seafood retail environment. Range seafood product within own work area. Evidence requirements 2.1 Information about seafood product usage, quality characteristics, and handling is provided to meet customer needs, and is in accordance with company and legislation requirements. Range 2.2 quality characteristics may include but are not limited to – origin, sensory information, nutritional benefits, shelf life. Information is communicated in a manner that meets customer needs. Range may include but is not limited to – match with customer’s specific enquiry, level of interest, product knowledge. 2.3 Alternative seafood product options are provided, if requested, in accordance with company requirements. 2.4 Alternative sources of information are provided or referred to, if the customer enquiry is unable to be answered.
