Definitions
Company requirements include the policy, procedures, and methodologies of the
company. They include requirements documented in company and site health and
safety plans, quality assurance documents, and contract work programmes;
Site procedures refer to the procedures which are required to be observed for safe
work practices at a particular site;

drawings, project specification documents, legislation, regulations, and codes;
Manufacturers’ recommendations refer to product information and product data
sheets provided by the manufacturer of any given product.

This unit standard applies to both new roof and re-roofing installations.
Elements and performance criteria
Element 1
Lay out concrete roof tiles.
Performance criteria
1.1
Laid tiles conform to the requirements of the job specifications and NZS
4206:1992.
1.2
Tile parts or manufacturing scrap are removed to enable tiles to sit to line on
finished roof in accordance with company requirements.
1.3
Laid tiles interlock as designed and vertical and diagonal alignment is
maintained in accordance with tile manufacturer’s recommendations and
company requirements.
Element 2
Fix full concrete roof tiles.
Performance criteria
2.1
Fixing system and fixing pattern adopted conform with the requirements of NZS
4206:1992 and the job specification where this exceeds the standard.
2.2
Application of specified fixing is in accordance with the requirements of NZS
4206:1992.
2.3
Tiles damaged and not meeting manufacturer’s recommendations during
roofing work are replaced in accordance with company requirements.
2.4
Rejected tiles and unusable tile sections are removed from the roof in
accordance with site procedures.
2.5
Surplus material is removed, and roof and site are left in a condition which
enables further work to be carried out, in accordance with company
requirements.
Element 3
Maintain a safe working environment.

3.1
Work practices are carried out without injury to people or damage to equipment,
building, or plant, in accordance with legislation, regulations, codes, health and
safety in employment guidelines, and company requirements.
3.2
Personal protective equipment for the task at hand is selected and worn in
accordance with manufacturers’ recommendations and site procedures.
Range
includes but is not limited to – hard hat, sunblock, ear muffs, safety
glasses, gloves, knee pads, high visibility clothing, safety harness.
3.3
Work area is cordoned off and safety notices and notification of work signs are
distributed and erected, in accordance with site procedures.
3.4
Work area is kept clear of debris and unnecessary items in accordance with site
procedures.

Providers must be accredited by the Qualifications Authority, or an inter-institutional body
with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from
assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by the Qualifications Authority before
they can register credits from assessment against unit standards.
Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards
must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
