The New Zealand Building Code is a schedule to the Building Regulations 1992. It
provides requirements for compliance with the Building Act 2004 when constructing a
new building or altering an existing one. The Building Code sets out performance
standards that building work must meet and covers aspects such as structural
stability, fire safety, access, moisture control, durability, and services and facilities.

Element 1
Describe the planning and checks required prior to installing a roof.
Performance criteria
1.1
Purpose of the work sheet, plan, or job schedule is identified in terms of defining
the work to be done.
1.2
Site check activities are identified in accordance with site procedures.
Range
health and safety checks, site hazards, equipment required.
1.3
Material checks for establishing the quantity and condition of delivered materials
are described.
1.4
Roof framing checks that are used to verify the builder’s work prior to
commencing roof installation are described.
Element 2
Describe the pinning out process when installing a roof.
Performance criteria
2.1
Processes of determining spacing, setting out, pinning out, cutting, fitting and
fixing roof battens are described in accordance with job specifications and NZS
4206.
2.2
Process of installing underlay is described in accordance with job specifications
and NZS 4206.

Element 3
Describe the tile lifting and stacking process for roof tiles.
Performance criteria
3.1
Process of lifting or using an elevator to get tiles onto the roof is described in
accordance with job specifications and site procedures.
3.2
Process of stacking the tiles on the roof is described in accordance with job
specifications and site procedures.
Element 4
Describe the roof tile installation process.
Performance criteria
4.1
Valley tray installation is described in accordance with job specifications and
NZS 4206.
4.2
Tile placement and fixing processes are described in accordance with job
specifications and NZS 4206.
4.3
Part tile installation and fixing processes are described in accordance with job
specifications and NZS 4206.
4.4
Accessory tile installation and bedding or fixing is described in accordance with
job specifications and NZS 4206.
4.5
Flashing installation and fixing is described in accordance with job specifications
and NZS 4206.
4.6
Simple penetrations are described in accordance with job specifications and
NZS 4206.
4.7
Sealant application is described in accordance with job specifications.

Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated
authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against
unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register
credits from assessment against unit standards.
Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards
must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.

Accreditation requirements and an outline of the moderation system that applies to this
