New Zealand Qualifications Authority 2016 10854 version 4 Page 2 of 3 3 Design principles referred to in this unit standard incorporate ergonomics, functionality, practicality, scantlings, aesthetics, and design rules. 4 This unit standard includes new work, refits, structural alterations, and repairs. Elements and performance criteria Element 1 Analyse a given marine design brief. Performance criteria 1.1 Sketches are developed which include two or three dimensional forms, and annotations that show progression and design thinking. 1.2 Calculations and/or coefficients are developed that outline the parameters for the design and match the requirements of the design brief. Element 2 Produce and revise marine design options. Performance criteria 2.1 Ideas are selected from sketches and meet the design brief. 2.2 Ideas are developed to produce design solutions that meet classification rules. 2.3 Design options are refined in sketch form to meet client’s brief and with preferably three dimensional effects. 2.4 Conceptual designs are presented to clients incorporating concept drawings, and supporting information. Range presentation – media, methods, sequence; drawings – line styles, shading, colour. 2.5 Design changes are listed that meet clients and brief requirements. 2.6 Design is altered to meet design changes and classification requirements. Please note Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment. Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards.
