People credited with this unit standard are able to: describe the objectives of preparing planting sites prior to establishment of a tree crop; demonstrate knowledge of Māori practices and values associated with land preparation operations; and demonstrate knowledge of site preparation methods for forest establishment. Evidence requirements 1.1 The objectives of planting site preparation are described in accordance with the Best Practice Guides. 1.2 Advantages of planting trees on prepared sites and disadvantages of planting trees on unprepared sites are described. Range planting conditions, tree growth, access. Outcome 2 Demonstrate knowledge of Māori practices and values associated with land preparation operations. Evidence requirements 2.1 Management requirements for each land preparation site, prior to commencement of operations, are explained. Range land records, block inspection, job prescription, consultation with local iwi. 2.2 Ways to ensure Māori values are recognised in terms of identifying hapū, consultation, and sign off are described. 2.3 Ways to identify Māori sites which may require protection are described. 2.4 Appropriate action following the discovery of burial sites (urupā) or artefacts is described in accordance with worksite policies and procedures. Outcome 3 Demonstrate knowledge of site preparation methods for forest establishment. Evidence requirements 3.1 Methods of site preparation are described in accordance with the Best Practice Guides.
