They may refer to manuals, manufacturer's specifications, codes of practice, or policy statements. Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Demonstrate knowledge of autoclaving and an autoclave. Evidence requirements 1.1 Autoclaving is described in terms of the process and reasons for autoclaving. Range 1.2 reasons – setting, steaming, relaxation, dye fixing, bulking. Parts of the autoclave are described in terms of their function and operation. Evidence requirements 2.1 Company-supplied clothing, and hygiene and safety equipment and materials, are worn and used in accordance with workplace procedures and statutory requirements. 2.2 Work methods comply with company and statutory requirements to minimise the risk of ill-health and injuries to self and others. 2.3 Unsafe and unhealthy conditions are identified and reported in accordance with workplace procedures and statutory requirements. Outcome 3 Set up an autoclave for operation. Evidence requirements 3.1 Autoclave is prepared for operation in accordance with workplace procedures. Range programme identified, programme loaded, steam and water supplies operating, door seal clean and undamaged, cold autoclave pre-cycled. Outcome 4 Load and process textile material in an autoclave. Evidence requirements 4.1 Material is loaded in carrier in accordance with workplace procedures. Range 4.2 Material is processed and monitored in accordance with workplace procedures. Range 4.3 monitor – vacuum gauge, temperature, time. End of process procedures are carried out according to workplace procedure. Range 4.4 not overloaded, not overhanging, not touching chamber, covers in place where used. vacuum released, cooling sequence followed, door opening sequence followed. Records are kept in accordance with workplace procedures. Evidence requirements 5.1 Autoclave and work area are kept clear of fibre and waste to prevent contamination. 5.2 Autoclave is cleaned after processing in accordance with workplace procedures. 5.3 Maintenance is carried out in accordance with workplace procedures. Range 5.4 steam leaks reported, door seals checked for damage. Waste is collected and sorted for recycling in accordance with workplace procedures. This unit standard is expiring.
