People credited with this unit standard are able to demonstrate knowledge of: cutting equipment in the industrial textile fabrication industry; and cutting and shaping material. These requirements include but are not limited to – company specifications and procedures, work instructions, manufacturer specifications, product quality specifications, and legislative requirements. Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Demonstrate knowledge of cutting equipment in the industrial textile fabrication industry. Evidence requirements 1.1 Safe working practices relating to the use of cutting equipment are described in accordance with manufacturer specifications. Range 1.2 personal safety; safety of other people; workshop safety; tool, equipment, and machine safety. Cutting equipment and their particular uses are identified in accordance with the manufacturer specifications. Range includes but is not limited to – hand tools, power tools. Evidence requirements 2.1 Fabric cutting characteristics are described in accordance with the manufacturer specifications. Range 2.2 natural and synthetic materials. Preparation procedures for cutting and shaping materials are described in accordance with company requirements. Range layout, check measurements, clean area, adequate space, adequate lighting and ventilation, moving materials, checking cutting equipment, cutting list. 2.3 Bulk cutting and shaping procedures are described in accordance with the manufacturer specifications. 2.4 Single layer cutting and shaping procedures are described in accordance with the manufacturer specifications. 2.5 Procedures for cutting complex shapes are described in accordance with company requirements. 2.6 Importance of labelling the cut pieces, and procedures for doing this are explained in accordance with company requirements. includes but is not limited to – assembly, storage, customer requirements.
