Purpose
This unit standard is for people who work in the industrial textile
fabrication industry. People credited with this unit standard are
able to: prepare to cut material in the industrial textile
fabrication industry; cut out pieces; and maintain cutting
equipment

Definition
Company requirements refer to instructions to staff on policy and procedures which
are documented in memo or manual format and are available in the workplace.
These requirements include but are not limited to – company specifications and
procedures, work instructions, manufacturer specifications, product quality
specifications, and legislative requirements.

1.2
Fabric is laid out on the cutting table or floor in accordance with company
requirements.
1.3
Fabric is checked for defects in accordance with the manufacturer specifications
and company requirements.
1.4
Markings are identified and rechecked and are in accordance with job
specifications.
1.5
Tools for cutting material are selected and checked for sharpness in
accordance with company requirements.

Cut out pieces.
Evidence requirements
2.1
Safe working practices are carried out throughout the task in accordance with
legislative requirements.

2.2

Pieces are cut out to the marked lines at the workplace required speed and
quality in accordance with job specifications and company requirements.
Range
bulk cutting, single layer cutting; hand tools, power tools, hot knife,
scissors.
2.3
Complex shapes are cut in accordance with job specifications and company
requirements.
2.4
Cut pieces are checked and labelled in accordance with company requirements.
Range
may include but is not limited to – assembly, storage, customer
requirements.
2.5
Unused materials and offcuts are stored and/or disposed of in accordance with
company requirements.
2.6
Work area is cleared and cleaned to ensure safe operating conditions in
accordance with company requirements.
