Classification Diving > Diving - Recreational Available grade Achieved Entry information Critical health and safety prerequisites Entry is restricted to those in possession of the entry-level certification as recognised by the New Zealand Underwater Training Council or equivalent, as determined by the Sport Fitness and Recreation Industry Training Organisation (Sfrito). Explanatory notes 1 Industry technical and safety criteria are specified in the training manuals of the agencies approved by Sfrito. 2 All workplace diving practice must comply with the requirements of the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992 and Health and Safety in Employment Regulations 1995. All practice must also comply with Accident Rehabilitation and Compensation Insurance Act 1992 and the Occupational Safety and Health guidelines for Occupational Diving. 3 All training providers assessing against any instruction diving unit standard must ensure that the training is conducted by a qualified instructor currently registered with one of the listed agencies: National Association of Underwater Instructors, Professional Association of Diving Instructors, Scuba Schools International, Confédération Mondiale des Activitiés Subaquatiques, International Diving Educators Association, or an equivalent, determined by Sfrito, that meets the requirements of the Recreational Scuba Training Council, the instructor must provide training in accordance with the standards and procedures of the respective training agency. Range expertise, qualifications, limitations, disabilities. 1.2 Communication with clients ensures familiarity with dive procedures and communication requirements. 1.3 Communication with clients is appropriate for the situation. Outcome 2 Plan and manage the dive trip. Evidence requirements 2.1 Equipment distribution ensures that clients’ needs are met. Range 2.2 size, weight, ability. Supervision of clients’ training is interactive. Range supervisor assists clients, clients assist supervisor. 2.3 Evaluation of dive site ensures its suitability for client group. 2.4 Planning and management of dive trip logistics ensure smooth running of trip. This unit standard is Outcome 3 expiring Guide clients on dives. Range trip location, group size, group equipment, dive site, hazards, qualification and experience of clients. Evidence requirements 3.1 Guiding practice facilitates clients’ confidence. 3.2 Guiding practice ensures clients’ safety at all times. 3.3 Communication with clients underwater while guiding is clear and easily understood. 3.4 Guiding practice meets industry technical and safety criteria.
