NZQA Expiring unit standard 25432 version 2 Page 1 of 3 Title Provide client service and care in a barbering salon Level 2 Purpose Credits 4 This is a practical unit standard for people in the barbering industry who will deal with clients in a barbering salon. People credited with this unit standard are able to: greet a client arriving at a barbering salon; care for a client having a barbering salon service; and farewell a client leaving a barbering salon. Classification Beauty Services > Barbering Available grade Achieved Explanatory notes 1 Definitions workplace means barbering salon; workplace requirements mean the practices prescribed by management as being the quality standards for client contact and work organisation for a particular salon; legislative requirements refer to the obligations of the employer and/or employee under the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992 and Health (Hairdressers) Regulations 1980. 2 In this unit standard all work must comply with legislative requirements and must ensure optimum hair condition and maximum client comfort at all times. 3 Care of the client includes visits for non-chemical services. 4 Useful references for this unit standard include the Employers’ Training Manual, and the Training Record Book. Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Greet a client arriving at a barbering salon. Evidence requirements 1.1 The client is greeted on arrival at the salon, the purpose of their visit is established, and action is taken in accordance with workplace requirements. Range may include but is not limited to – initial haircut requirements, face preparation for wet shaving, shampooing, product removal. Outcome 2 Care for a client having a barbering salon service. Evidence requirements 2.1 The client is seated comfortably as appropriate for the required service and initial client requirements in accordance with workplace requirements. Range 2.2 The client is protected appropriately for the required service in accordance with workplace requirements. Range 2.3 may include but is not limited to – towel, cape, neck strip, eye pads. The client is informed politely of any waiting period as identified by the stylist, and action is taken in accordance with workplace requirements. Range 2.4 one of – work station, shampoo basin. may include – offering beverage, offering reading material. Client comfort and protection is checked and maintained during service in accordance with workplace requirements. Outcome 3 Farewell a client leaving a barbering salon. Evidence requirements 3.1 The client’s belongings are retrieved from storage and returned in the same condition they were received. 3.2 The client’s payment for the service is taken in accordance with workplace requirements.
