People credited with this unit standard are able to select and maintain barbering tools and equipment. Range tools – brushes, combs, scissors, razors, clippers, blow dryers, neck trimmers, clipper attachments, cutthroat razor, neck strips, towels; equipment – barber’s chair; evidence relating to three barbering services is required. Performance criteria 1.1 Tools and equipment are identified and described in terms of their specific uses. 1.2 Selected tools and equipment match barbering service requirements. Element 2 Maintain barbering tools and equipment. Performance criteria 2.1 Cleaning and maintenance procedures for tools and equipment are described in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions, legislative requirements and optimum performance and safety requirements. Range 2.2 Types of oils and cleaning agents required for maintaining tools and equipment are identified and described in terms of their specific uses. Range 2.3 may include but is not limited to oils and cleaning agents for – scissors, razors, neck trimmers, clippers; evidence is required for a minimum of four types of tools and equipment. Cutting equipment maintenance is described in terms of sharpening, servicing, blade replacement and clipper adjustments. Range 2.4 includes but is not limited to – blow dryers, barber’s chair. includes but is not limited to – scissors, razors, neck trimmers, clippers. Cutting equipment is cleaned and maintained in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions and legislative requirements. Range scissors, razors, neck trimmers, clippers. Please note Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment. Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards. Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards. Accreditation requirements and an outline of the moderation system that applies to this standard are outlined in the Accreditation and Moderation Action Plan (AMAP).
