Unit 340, Demonstrate knowledge of safe working practices in the printing and graphic pre-press industries, or demonstrate equivalent knowledge and skills.

Explanatory notes

1 All workplace practices must meet any applicable and recognised codes of practice, and documented workplace health, safety, and environmental procedures for personal, product, workplace health, safety, and environmental matters, and the obligations required under current law including the Health and Safety in Employment

Act 1992, Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act 1996, Resource

Management Act 1991, Privacy Act 1993 and their subsequent amendments.

2 Workplace practices refer to the documented procedures for the machine and/or workplace.

1.1 The coating selected meets the requirements of the job.

1.2 Coating condition is checked prior to application in accordance with workplace practices.

Evidence requirements

2.1 The coating equipment is set up in accordance with workplace practices.

2.2 The paper to be coated is threaded in accordance with workplace practices.

Outcome 3

Operate the coating equipment.

Evidence requirements

3.1 The coating is transferred to the paper in accordance with workplace practices.

Range free of spills, blockages or interruptions in the coating circulation system; even and smooth coating.

3.2 The coating is applied to meet the production order specifications.

Range paper surface, amount of coating, foreign matter, spillage.

3.3 Board is free from delamination, blocking, and misalignment exceeding 5mm at operator side.
