Enterprise procedures refer to the documented procedures used by the organisation carrying out the work and applicable to the tasks being carried out. They may include but are not limited to – standard operating procedures, site safety procedures, equipment operating procedures, codes of practice, quality assurance procedures, housekeeping standards, charging of time and materials, management of drawings and documentation, procedures to comply with legislative and local body requirements. Extenders are extender pigments generally used as property modifiers. Pigments are prime pigments which impart colour. Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Demonstrate knowledge of paint products and production. Evidence requirements 1.1 The purposes of paint are described. Range 1.2 The end-use applications for own enterprise paint products are described. Range 1.3 purposes – protection, decoration. may include but is not limited to – DIY use, trade, heavy duty industrial, light industrial, automotive. Paint raw material components are identified and their basic function is described. The stages in paint manufacture are identified and described. Range stages – ingredient assembly, dispersion, mixing, testing, packaging. Outcome 2 Demonstrate knowledge of paint raw material components. Range components – film formers, pigments, extenders, solvents, additives. Evidence requirements 2.1 The physical forms of each of the types of paint raw material components are identified. Range 2.2 The common packaging used for paint raw material components in own enterprise is identified. Range 2.3 physical forms – liquids, powders, solids, pastes. packaging may include – multiwall bags, drums, pails, large and small tanks, bulk bags, intermediate bulk containers. Hazards are described, and enterprise procedures associated with handling and storage of each of the types of paint raw material components are explained in accordance with enterprise procedures.
