Those credited with this unit standard are able to: plan a job and write a job specification; interpret drawings and plans; and design and make a pattern. Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Plan a job and write a job specification. Evidence requirements 1.1 Job is identified. Range 1.2 cut, tear, worn through fabric, worn padding, broken seams and piping, broken supports, designed product. Parts to be removed to enable the job to be carried out are identified according to company policy. Range fabric, steel frame, wooden frame, padding. 1.4 Tools and equipment are identified and used according to company policy. 1.5 Job is planned according to company policy. Range repair carried out in allotted time; minimal wastage of materials. 1.6 Job specification is written and interpreted according to company policy and no damage is missed. 1.7 Safe working practices are carried out throughout the task. Range personal safety, safety to other people, environmental safety; vehicle safety; tool, equipment, and machine safety. Outcome 2 Interpret drawings and plans. Evidence requirements 2.1 Measurements are identified, and are according to job specifications. 2.2 Materials to be used are identified, and are according to job specifications. 2.3 Allowances are applied according to company policy. Range 2.4 seams, hems, shrinkage, stretch. Drawing and plan are interpreted according to job specifications. Outcome 3 Design and make a pattern. Evidence requirements 3.1 Materials used to design and make a pattern are identified. Range 3.2 markers, paper, cardboard, measuring instruments, square, straight edge. Customers requirements, the feasibility of doing the job, and drawing the pattern to specification are identified according to company policy. Range customer satisfaction, legislation, cost, wastage. Design drawing is carried out according to specifications and measurements are in accordance with job specifications. Range pictorial projection, isometric projection, oblique projection, circular objects; scale size, actual size.
