Company procedures means the documented methods for performing work activities
and include health and safety, environmental, and quality management requirements.
They may refer to manuals, codes of practice, or policy statements.
Elements and performance criteria
Element 1
Demonstrate knowledge of procedures for work notifications and approvals in a gas
distribution network.
Performance criteria
1.1
Company procedures for notifications and approvals are located and interpreted
to determine classifications.
Range
1.2
may include – Gas Regulations, Gas Act, conditional approvals.
Parties affected by works are identified and their specific requirements are
outlined.
Range
may include – Transit New Zealand, territorial local authority,
Tranzrail, Police, emergency services, Terra Link, other utilities.

Methods of notification are described in accordance with company policy and
national/local authority requirements.
1.4
Types of disruption are identified and described in terms of notification
requirements.

disruptions may include – gas escape, pipe laying, internal and
external installations, recommissioning, decommissioning,
commissioning supply, disruption, proposed works, disconnection,
re-connection, emergency, upgrade, maintenance, relay.
Approved methods of compliance are described in accordance with company
procedures and national/local body requirements.

Performance criteria
2.1
Parties affected by specific works are identified.

may include – local authority, service authority, police, emergency
services, event organisers, transport operators.
2.2
Relevant approvals are gained prior to commencement of work in accordance
with company procedures and national/local authority requirements.
2.3
Conditions are monitored in accordance with company procedures and granted
approvals.
2.4
Customers are notified of proposed works in accordance with company
procedures, legal requirements, and (where applicable) other authority’s
requirements.
Range
may include – advertising, telephone, mail, person to person,
facsimile.
Please note
Providers must be accredited by the Qualifications Authority, or an inter-institutional body
with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from
assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by the Qualifications Authority before
they can register credits from assessment against unit standards.
Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards
must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
Accreditation requirements and an outline of the moderation system that applies to this
standard are outlined in the Accreditation and Moderation Action Plan (AMAP). The
AMAP also includes useful information about special requirements for organisations
wishing to develop education and training programmes, such as minimum qualifications for
tutors and assessors, and special resource requirements.
