This unit standard is for people who are involved in automotive
reglazing.
People credited with this unit standard are able to: prepare to
remove and install framed automotive glass; remove fitted
framed automotive glass from vehicle; install framed
automotive glass; and clean work areas and maintain framed
automotive glass installation equipment.

Definitions
Worksite requirements – refer to instructions to staff on policy and procedures which
are documented in memo or manual format and are available in the workplace.
These requirements include but are not limited to – company specifications and
procedures, work instructions, product quality specifications, legislative requirements.
Manufacturer’s specifications – refer to industry requirements that relate to the
products being supplied or used.
Materials and equipment – refer to industry approved materials and equipment that
are recognised within the industry as being the most suited to complete the task in a
professional and competent manner with due regard to safe working practices.
Personal protective equipment – refers to equipment designed for the protection of
eyes, hands, feet, and hair.

Evidence is required of a minimum of three removals and installations of framed
automotive glass.

Outcomes and evidence requirements
Outcome 1
Prepare to remove and install framed automotive glass.
Evidence requirements
1.1
Techniques used to remove and install framed automotive glass are identified
and described in accordance with worksite requirements.
Range
1.2
includes but is not limited to – commercial, light vehicles.
Job requirements are determined from job specifications and the glass
manufacturer’s specifications in terms of method to be used, and materials and
equipment required.
Range
job specifications include but are not limited to – window size,
shape and position; materials; VIRM glazing requirements;
maintaining vehicle structural integrity.
1.3
Vehicle preparation requirements are determined in accordance with the glass
manufacturer’s specifications.
1.4
Health and safety requirements are identified in terms of personal protective
equipment, materials and equipment requirements.
1.5
Materials and equipment required for the removal and installation are selected
in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications.
1.6
Procedures for minimising waste material are identified in accordance with
worksite requirements.
Outcome 2
Remove fitted framed automotive glass from vehicle.
Evidence requirements
2.1
Automotive glass is removed without causing damage to equipment or injury to
personnel and without causing unnecessary damage to the vehicle.
2.2
Automotive glass is removed in accordance with worksite requirements.
Outcome 3
Install framed automotive glass.
Evidence requirements
3.1
Material specifications are identified and checked against the job specifications.

3.2
Framed automotive glass is installed in accordance with manufacturer’s
specifications.
3.3
Sealant material is applied in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications.
3.4
Installation is completed without causing damage to glass or equipment or injury
to personnel and without causing unnecessary damage to the vehicle.
3.5
Vehicle and/or glass is cleaned and prepared for customer vehicle collection in
accordance with worksite requirements.
3.6
Warranty and safety information is communicated to the vehicle owner in
accordance with legislative and worksite requirements.
3.7
Installation is documented in accordance with worksite requirements.
Outcome 4
Clean work areas and maintain framed automotive glass installation equipment.
Evidence requirements
4.1
Re-useable materials are identified and stored in accordance with
manufacturer’s specifications and worksite requirements.
4.2
Waste and scrap materials are removed from the work area and disposed of in
accordance with worksite requirements.
4.3
Work area is cleaned and inspected and left in a safe and serviceable condition
in accordance with worksite requirements.
4.4
Equipment is maintained in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications and
worksite requirements.
4.5
Work area is maintained in a safe and serviceable condition in accordance with
worksite requirements.
