People credited with this unit standard are able to select glass and prepare glass for cutting, and cut glass using an automated or semi-automated machine. These requirements include – company specifications and procedures, work instructions, manufacturer’s specifications, product quality specifications, legislative requirements. 2 Legislation relevant to this unit standard includes – Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992. Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Select glass and prepare glass for cutting. Evidence requirements 1.1 Preparation of work area and personal safety precautions are carried out in accordance with worksite requirements. Range 1.2 preparation includes – selection and use of protective clothing and safety equipment, identification of hazards, ventilation of production area, clearing work area, ensuring cleanliness of work area. Selected glass meets the job specifications for type, thickness, and size and is checked for imperfections before use in accordance with worksite requirements. Evidence requirements 2.1 Machine is set up in accordance with the job specifications and worksite requirements. set-up includes – loader settings, cutting machine settings. Range 2.2 Machine is operated in accordance with worksite requirements. operation includes – loading, cutting, unloading, dealing with offcuts and trims. Range 2.3 Cut glass is checked for compliance with the job specifications. 2.4 Procedures are applied to finished glass in accordance with worksite requirements. procedures include – cleaning, labelling or marking, stacking, storing, preparation for further processing or dispatch.
