Those credited with this unit standard are able: demonstrate knowledge of scale sand mixing machines; demonstrate knowledge of paint formulas; and mix colours to formula. Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Demonstrate knowledge of scales and mixing machines. Evidence requirements 1.1 Types of scales and their operation are identified according to manufacturer's specifications. Range 1.2 weight, intelligent head balance. Paint mixing machines are identified according to manufacturer's specifications. Range mixing bank, hand held, still bank (water borne). Range may include but are not limited to – formula books, microfiche, computer systems. Evidence requirements 2.1 Paint codes on vehicles are located and identified according to vehicle manufacturer's information. Range under bonnet, inside boot, inside doors; adhesive sticker, aluminium plate. 2.2 Colour codes on microfiche film are identified according to vehicle manufacturer's information. 2.3 Paint formulas for different kinds of paint are identified according to paint manufacturer's specifications and the acceptable industry standard. Range 2.4 may include but are not limited to – solid colours, basecoats. Tinters that make up formulas are identified according to paint manufacturer's specifications. Range full strength, reduced strength; solid colours, basecoats. Outcome 3 Mix colours to formula. Range new and existing colours and formulas. Evidence requirements 3.1 Tools and equipment are identified and used according to the formula. Range 3.2 Formula is identified, according to vehicle manufacturer's specifications. Range 3.3 scales, mixing machine, suitable sized and shaped container for the job. may include but are not limited to – paint code, formula book, microfiche, computer. Quantity of paint to be mixed is identified, and colour is mixed according to paint manufacturer's formula and vehicle warranty conditions. Range 3.6 personal safety; safety of other people; vehicle safety; workshop safety; environmental safety; tool, equipment, and machine safety. Work is completed to the acceptable industry standard and in an acceptable industry time. Replacement information This unit standard and unit standard 5730 have been replaced by unit standard 24006 and unit standard 24007. This unit standard is expiring.
