People credited with this unit standard are able to: cut vinyl letters and graphics; prepare the surfaces; apply vinyl letters and graphics to smooth and non-smooth surfaces; and clean the site. Classification Graphic Arts > Signmaking Available grade Achieved Explanatory notes 1 Range Two smooth surfaces, two non-smooth surfaces. 2 Examples of surfaces include but are not limited to – glass, metal, plastic, cloth, fibreglass, acrylic, vinyl, concrete, paint finish, paper, card, wood, cork. 3 All work practices shall meet the requirements of relevant legislation, including Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992, Resource Management Act 1991, and the requirements of industry codes of practice and documented enterprise procedures in respect to health, safety, and environmental matters. This unit standard is Outcomes and evidence requirements expiring Outcome 1 Cut vinyl letters and graphics. Evidence requirements 1.1 Vinyl film selected meets job specification and is compatible with substrate. Range 1.2 include but are not limited to – cast vinyl film, calendered vinyl film. Application tape selected meets job specification and is compatible with substrate. Range Competenz SSB Code 101571 include but are not limited to – strong, medium, weak tack, clear tapes. Range 1.4 1046 version 9 Page 2 of 3 examples include but are not limited to – computer generated, direct layout. Cutting and weeding out of vinyl is completed to job specification. Outcome 2 Prepare the surfaces. Evidence requirements 2.1 Surfaces are made clean and free from dust and previous lettering, adhesives, and any other material likely to affect adhesion and surface finish. Outcome 3 Apply vinyl letters and graphics to the surfaces. Evidence requirements 3.1 Placement of vinyl complies with layout specification. 3.2 Adhesion of vinyl to surface complies with job specification. Range 3.3 examples include but are not limited to – short term, long term. Surface finishing of vinyl is consistent with job specification and free from all air bubbles and wrinkles. This unit standard is Evidence requirements expiring Outcome 4 Clean the site. 4.1 Sign and surrounding surfaces are clean and waste removed to client's/supervisor's satisfaction. 4.2 Tools and equipment are stored according to supervisor's instructions.
