Purpose
People credited with this unit standard are able to: exchange
foreign currency and complete sales transactions in New
Zealand currency, in a retail or distribution environment, in
accordance with organisational procedures.

Explanatory notes
1
Definitions
Foreign currency refers to any currency that is in use in a foreign country but not in
one's own, for example, the US dollar is foreign currency in New Zealand. Foreign
currency can be issued as cash, travellers’ cheques, bank drafts.
Foreign exchange refers to a system or institution for changing the money of one
country for the money of another country.
Organisational procedures refer to instructions to staff on policy and procedures
which are formally documented, or generally accepted within the workplace.
Retail or distribution environment refers to workplaces where the primary focus is on
customers purchasing goods and/or services.

Performance of the outcomes of this unit standard must comply with the
requirements of the following - Bills of Exchange Act 1908, Cheques Act 1960,
Reserve Bank Act 1989, Customs and Excise Act 1996.

Evidence is required of two foreign currency transactions in at least two currencies.

Accurate and current information on rates and fees is provided to customer prior
to transaction.

Foreign currency received is exchanged to New Zealand currency at current
rate.
Outcome 2
Complete sales transactions in New Zealand currency in accordance with organisational
procedures.
Evidence requirements
2.1
Product details are checked and requirements are checked with customer.
Range
identification, price in New Zealand currency.
2.2
Payment is received for goods and correct change is given in New Zealand
currency.
2.3
Record of sales transaction is accurate, complete, and complies with banking
requirements.
2.4
Security is maintained.
