Purpose
This unit standard is for people employed in the petrochemical industry.
People credited with this unit standard are, in a petrochemical workplace,
able to: identify security requirements of pipeline stations; inspect integrity of
pipeline stations; and communicate and document findings.

Definitions
The Hazchem emergency action code of numbers, letters, and diamonds give
information to emergency services. Its use is required by NZS 5433 PARTS 1 &
2:2007 Transport of Dangerous Goods on Land.
Site requirements mean the site specific documented methods for performing work
activities and include health, safety, environmental, and quality management
requirements. They may refer to manuals, codes of practice, or policy statements.
Elements and performance criteria
Element 1
Inspect the security of pipeline stations in a petrochemical workplace.
Performance criteria
1.1
Security systems are inspected in accordance with site requirements.
Range
1.2
compound, buildings, fencing, locks, alarm systems.
Any actions required in the event of a security breach are taken in accordance
with site requirements.
Element 2
Inspect integrity of pipeline stations.
Performance criteria
2.1
Pipeline station hazards are identified and control measures explained in
accordance with site requirements.
Range
pipeline product, chemicals, electricity, earthing, vegetation.
2.2
Pipeline station plans and drawings are located and used to assist the
inspection.
2.3
All pipeline station signs and Hazchem markers are checked for fitness for
purpose.
2.4
Equipment and systems associated with the station are checked for operation
and condition in accordance with site requirements.

2.5
fire detection, air conditioning, gas detection, communication
equipment, power supply, pipeline control systems, fencing,
sumps and drains, lighting, weed control.
Leak detection is carried out on the pipeline station and, if needed, corrective
action taken in accordance with site requirements.

Communicate and document inspection findings.
Performance criteria
3.1
Identify documentation requirements according to station type.

pig launching/receiving, valve, compressor/pumping, metering,
mixing, well site.
3.2
Control room operator is notified of station status and personnel movements in
accordance with site requirements.
3.3
All findings relevant to the inspection are reported in accordance with site
requirements.

photographs, any follow up actions.
Please note
Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated
authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against
unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register
credits from assessment against unit standards.
Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards
must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
Accreditation requirements and an outline of the moderation system that applies to this
standard are outlined in the Accreditation and Moderation Action Plan (AMAP). The
AMAP also includes useful information about special requirements for organisations
wishing to develop education and training programmes, such as minimum qualifications for
