This unit standard is for experienced people who work in the
glass processing, glazing or automotive reglazing sectors of the
glass industry.
People credited with this unit standard are able to: cut glass to
regular shapes manually; cut glass to irregular shapes
manually; and optimise cutting of glass.

1
Definitions
Irregular shapes – shapes other than squares, rectangles and circles.
Regular shapes – squares, rectangles and circles.
Worksite requirements – refer to instructions to staff on policy and procedures which
are documented in memo or manual format and are available in the workplace.
These requirements include – company specifications and procedures, work
instructions, manufacturer’s specifications, product quality specifications, legislative
requirements.

Legislation relevant to this unit standard includes – Health and Safety in Employment
Act 1992.

Range
Evidence is required of five different regular and five different irregular cuts.

Outcome 1
Cut glass to regular shapes manually.
Evidence requirements
1.1
Glass is prepared for cutting to regular shapes manually in accordance with
worksite requirements and the job specifications.
Range
preparation includes – work area, personal protective equipment
(PPE), cutting area, cutting table, selecting glass, checking glass,
selecting tools and equipment, placing glass.
1.2
Glass is marked for cutting regular shapes in accordance with worksite
requirements and the job specifications.
1.3
Glass is cut to regular shapes manually in accordance with worksite
requirements and the job specifications.
1.4
Glass is checked and finished in accordance with worksite requirements and
the job specifications.
1.5
Work area is left clean and tidy in accordance with worksite requirements.
Outcome 2
Cut glass to irregular shapes manually.
Evidence requirements
2.1
Glass is prepared for cutting to irregular shapes manually in accordance with
worksite requirements and the job specifications.
Range
preparation includes – work area, PPE, cutting area, cutting table,
selecting glass, checking glass, selecting tools and equipment,
placing glass.
2.2
Glass is marked for cutting irregular shapes using a selected template in
accordance with worksite requirements and the job specifications.
2.3
Glass is cut to irregular shapes using a cutting plan in accordance with worksite
requirements and the job specifications.
2.4
Glass is checked and finished in accordance with worksite requirements and
the job specifications.
2.5
Work area is left clean and tidy and the template is stored in accordance with
worksite requirements.

Optimise cutting of glass.
Evidence requirements
3.1
Cutting plans and labels are created in accordance with worksite requirements.
3.2
Glass is cut using a cutting plan to optimise the cutting space in accordance
with worksite requirements and the job specifications.
3.3
Results of completed products are analysed to determine yield, wastage and
stock requirements in accordance with worksite requirements.
