People credited with this unit standard are able to: obtain information required to complete pricing of materials for simple glazing work; detail and calculate the cost of required materials; and present the price of the materials required for the work. Classification Glass and Glazing > General Glass and Glazing Available grade Achieved Explanatory notes 1 Definitions Accepted terms – those terms commonly used in the industry and generally refer to those found in the selected references. Simple glazing work – work which has: a maximum of three items for glazing, one of which may be other than flat glass; a maximum of two processes to be applied to the glazing material, and a maximum of two different methods of installation. Worksite requirements – refer to instructions to staff on policy and procedures which are documented in memo or manual format and are available in the workplace. These requirements include – company specifications and procedures, work instructions, manufacturer’s specifications, product quality specifications, legislative requirements. 2 In the context of this unit standard, selected references are those documents or parts of documents identified as standard references by the industry. Evidence requirements 1.1 Procedures used to obtain and record information required are in accordance with worksite requirements. Range procedures may include – reference to drawings and specifications for the work, use of tables and charts from selected references, taking measurements on site, recording information in enterprise-approved format. 1.2 Glazing materials and processes for the work are identified in accordance with selected references and worksite requirements. 1.3 Procedures used to verify information obtained are in accordance with worksite requirements. Range procedures include – check dimensions, check application, check reference sources. Outcome 2 Detail and calculate the cost of required materials. Evidence requirements 2.1 Materials are detailed in accordance with worksite requirements. Range 2.2 detailing includes – glass type, thickness, weight, dimensions, number of pieces, descriptions of processes to be applied to the material, fixing methods and materials. Materials are priced in accordance with worksite requirements. Range pricing includes – unit rates, item totals and item costs expressed in accepted terms, calculations used to obtain item totals and costs. 2.3 Layout and presentation of detailing and costing is in accordance with worksite requirements. 2.4 Procedures used to verify detailing and pricing are in accordance with worksite requirements. Range procedures include – checking dimensions, checking calculations, check terminology. Outcome 3 Present the price of the materials required for the work.
