This unit standard is aimed at technicians and/or process
workers who are responsible for entering, retrieving, and
manipulating data from devices attached to process machinery.
People credited with this unit standard are able to: check and
maintain information technology devices in a dairy
manufacturing operation; input, store and retrieve product and
process data in accordance with organisational requirements in
a dairy manufacturing operation; and demonstrate knowledge
of the purpose and application of information technology in a
dairy manufacturing operation.

Explanatory notes
1
Work must be carried out in accordance with organisational requirements, licensing
requirements, legislative requirements, and industrial awards and agreements.

Information technology includes a range of computer-based devices used to enter,
edit, store, and retrieve data in the workplace.

Equipment set up can include confirming that the system is turned on, selecting
appropriate software or menus, setting up printing equipment where required.

Data access and/or entry typically involves the use of menus, prompts and codes.
Equipment can include use of a mouse, touch screens, keyboards and control
panels.

Organisational requirements refers to instructions to staff on policy and procedures
which are documented in memo or manual format and are available in the workplace.
These requirements include but are not limited to – site specific requirements, and
company quality management requirements.

Evidence for this unit standard needs to be supplied from the workplace and should
relate to the specific information technology requirements of the dairy industry.

applies to those standards.
