Definition
Organisation refers to a specific entity which may be – in private, public, or community
and volunteer sectors; a business, a separate unit within a larger entity, a Māori
organisation, or a special-purpose body.

For this unit standard, legal framework of employment must include the Employment
Relations Act 2000 (ERA), the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992 (HSE),
and at least three of the following, as relevant to the context:
- Accident Compensation Act 2001
- Equal Pay Act 1972
- Holidays Act 2003
- Human Rights Act 1993
- Industry Training Act 1992
- Minimum Wage Act 1983
- Parental Leave and Employment Protection Act 1987
- Privacy Act 1993
- State-Owned Enterprises Act 1986
- State Sector Act 1988
- Wages Protection Act 1983.

terms of its influence on the candidate and the organisation, according to the
candidate’s context.

ERA, HSE, and each of the other three Acts selected will be
described separately.
Workplace relations concepts arising from legal framework of employment are
described with reference to the candidate’s context.
