Purpose
People credited with this unit standard are able to analyse a
social structure, and evaluate the influence of a social structure
on people and society.

For the purposes of assessment, each outcome of this unit standard does not

Outcome 1
Analyse a social structure.
Evidence requirements
1.1
The analysis establishes the importance of social processes in terms of
reinforcing the social structure.
Range
at least one social process; social processes may include but are
not limited to - socialisation, social stratification.
1.2
The analysis establishes the hierarchical nature of the social structure in terms
of the relations of power.
1.3
The analysis of the social structure recognises variation according to place.
Range
1.4
at least two examples of variance.
The analysis establishes how a social structure may be reproduced or changed
over time.

The analysis is informed by a theoretical perspective appropriate to an analysis
of the social structure.
Range
theoretical perspectives may include but are not limited to Marxist, Weberian, feminist.

Evaluate the influence of a social structure on people and society.
Evidence requirements
2.1
The evaluation establishes the influence of the social structure in terms of its
impact on the lives of individuals or groups within the various social divisions
that constitute the social structure.
at least two examples of impacts on peoples’ lives within at least
two defined social divisions.
