Definitions
Vagahau Niue refers to the language of Niue. This unit standard involves written
Vagahau Niue;
Context refers to communicative situations, topics and settings appropriate to written
Vagahau Niue;
Less familiar refers to topics and settings that may be outside the learner’s normal
personal experience;
Written correspondence refers to initiating and/or responding to letters, emails and
facsimiles.

Evidence required for this unit standard is written correspondence of a minimum of
150 words in Vagahau Niue, incorporating the use of formal conventions and
protocols.

The evidence for outcomes one and two may be derived from the same piece of
correspondence.

Endorsement of village language variation may be conducted by pulotu, village or
community appointed experts.

Achievement of the evidence requirements allows for minor errors in grammar,
vocabulary and spelling, and translation of English expression. Texting abbreviations
are not permitted.
