Definitions
Vagahau Niue refers to the language of Niue. This unit standard involves written
Vagahau Niue;
Context refers to communicative situations, topics and settings appropriate to written
Vagahau Niue;
Basic refers to simple sentences, simple compound sentences and limited
vocabulary;
Predictable refers to topics and settings that are within the learner’s likely personal
experience;
Informal refers to casual correspondence between friends or other persons;
Correspondence includes initiating and/or responding;
Narrative refers to an account of a sequence of events.

Evidence required for this unit standard is one piece of correspondence and one
narrative in Vagahau Niue, each with a minimum of 100

Endorsement of village language variation may be conducted by pulotu, village or
community recognised and/or appointed experts.

Achievement of the evidence requirements allows for minor errors in grammar,
vocabulary and spelling, and translation of English expression. Texting abbreviations
are not permitted.
